IKEA's first UK city centre concept store

UC's appointment with IKEA spanned the retailer's most ambitious period of UK store development, covering new concept formats, order and collection stores, extensions and refurbishments across the national estate.

Trusted by Boots UK, we deliver expert construction and consultancy services across their retail network, ensuring consistent quality and value.

The 280,000 sq ft building rises across seven storeys and includes 850 car parking spaces, a 500-seat restaurant, a high bay racked warehouse, an automated storage and picking system, 14 passenger lifts and travelators, and a thermal bore heating system. The town centre setting brought deep piled foundations, offsite highway works, a culvert and a wartime ordnance site to manage.

Alongside Coventry, UC delivered new format order and collection stores at Norwich, Aberdeen and Birmingham, together with a programme of store extensions and refurbishments across the wider estate.
